Assessment

Assessment

For those experiencing attention or learning difficulties that are impacting their school, work, and home lives, it can be extremely frustrating to not fully understand what is going on or how to get help. Stimulant medication for AD/HD can be helpful, but may not address all of your concerns and can cause unfortunate side effects. Or your physician may require you to undergo formal assessment to receive a diagnosis of ADHD before prescribing medication. The combination of school and workplace accommodations, behavioral strategies, and medication is most effective, particularly if you are experiencing an underlying issue you’re unaware of. Attention issues, learning difficulties, and mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, frequently co-exist, leading to worse symptoms. Through psychological assessment, a psychologist can tease apart an individual’s various concerns to determine what is at the root and which type of treatment would be most helpful.

What to Expect

Similar to when someone contacts me to initiate therapy services, I provide a free 15-minute consultation regarding assessment to understand your needs and ensure I am the best provider to help. Once we have agreed upon the goal of the assessment, I will make sure you fully understand the assessment plan, including the tests I will utilize and the estimated length of testing. The following are typical assessment plans for diagnosing AD/HD and learning issues, but may need to be adapted based on individual needs and concerns:

AD/HD Assessment Plan:

  • Clinical Interview
  • Homework: Self and other (e.g., parent, sibling) rating scales of current and childhood symptoms
  • Test of Cognitive Abilities (administered in-person)
  • General symptom inventory (administered in-person)
  • Feedback session to review results

Learning Assessment Plan:

  • Clinical Interview
  • Test of Cognitive Abilities (administered in-person)
  • Test of Academic Achievement (administered in-person)
  • General symptom inventory (administered in-person)
  • Feedback session to review results

Rates and Insurance

My rate for testing is the same as the rate I charge for therapy- $175 per hour. A typical AD/HD assessment protocol takes 9-12 hours, and a typical learning assessment protocol takes 13-16 hours. These time estimates include time spent scoring and interpreting the assessments and writing a comprehensive report that you will be given a copy of during the feedback session and can share with your physician, school, or employer. I utilize the most advanced technology in assessment for accuracy and speed of process to help keep your costs down. You will be billed for the exact amount of time I spend on your case.

I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, MedCost, and Cigna. Insurance-designated co-payments are due at the time of service. Clients are responsible to pay full fee for any claims denied by insurance. However, clients are not expected to pay the difference between charges billed to insurance and what insurance reimburses for services.

For clients with other types of insurance, I am happy to provide a detailed bill to submit for insurance reimbursement.
